Cebu Taxi Drama: TXT's Soobin Calls Out Overcharge Try

TXT member Soobin has gone viral after sharing a Cebu taxi encounter that looked like a clear overcharging attempt. In a vlog uploaded on the group's official channel, the Korean star and his companion were seen checking a ride estimate before talking to a driver.

According to the report, the pair found that the expected fare to their destination was only around P300. But when they negotiated with a taxi driver, he first quoted P500 and then allegedly pushed the amount up to P1,000, blaming high gas prices for the higher charge.

Soobin did not stay quiet. In the video, he said he was filming the exchange and even told the camera that the moment should not be edited out. He and his companion eventually argued that they would only pay P500 after the driver allegedly tried to demand P1,000 again upon arrival.

The incident quickly reached regulators. LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the agency was already trying to identify the taxi driver involved and warned that once found, the driver's operations could be suspended. He added that a case may also be filed against both the driver and operator, including possible estafa and franchise-related violations.

For local tourism and transport, hindi magandang tingnan ito. A celeb travel story became a public consumer issue fast, and now the pressure is on regulators to show that visitors and ordinary passengers alike won't be taken for a ride in Cebu.
